The Bat Dactyl’s ancestors were the first flying mammals, and for millennia, they were the only flying mammals. They are descended from 1,300 varieties of bat. Echolocation enables the Bat Dactyl to 'see' in the dark so they can navigate and sense the scale and location of objects, by emitting high-pitched sounds which rebound from the objects in the environment. The Bat’s name derives from the Greek word Chiroptera which means hand wing as their wings are made up of four fingers and a thumb connected by a thin layer of skin. This offers dexterity in flight for quick manoeuvre to change direction when chasing prey or targets. The Bat Dactyl is ideally suited to inhabiting natural as well as manmade shelters and crevices, from caves to disused and derelict structures, like their bat ancestors they often choose to sleep upside down hanging from their feet and legs, as bats must drop in order to fly this provides a fast escape route. The Bat Dactyl thrives in areas across the globe that remain temperate, as they cannot live in the shrinking cold regions of the Earth or in the increasingly scorching areas of dessert.
